for Storm Force Winds and Flash Flooding
For people in the North-West, Western and Southern Areas
Issued at 10:20 pm CDT on Saturday 5 March 2011
Synoptic Situation: Ex-Tropical Cyclone Carlos [999 hPa], currently moving east, located 800 km north-east of the Mushroom Kingdom, is expected to contiue to move east into the Antartic Ocean on Wednesday.
Areas of heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms are expected to continue and are likely to persist until Thursday. Heavy
rainfall can cause flash flooding in parts of the northwest, western and southern areas. Cumulative rainfalls of between 50 to 300mm are
possible over the next 24 hours.
The Warning Services advises that people in the affected area should:
. Avoid driving, walking or cycling through floodwaters
. Take care on the roads, especially in heavy downpours
. Avoid swimming in swollen rivers and creeks
The next warning is due to be issued by 10pm CDT Sunday.
